This week we went to the garden to plant potatoes, radishes, chives and lettuce. We are learning about the needs of plants and animals. We know that plants need sun, soil, water and air to grow. We also know that chickens needs food, shelter and water to survive. We wrote a book about the needs of chickens this week too. We have been practicing our counting on skills and our addition skills. We are trying to remember that when we are counting on, we start from the larger number and then say the number after it. We are also building on our spring vocabulary and playing lots of games that help us use the French we know. We had a special guest visit our class this week to read us a story about residential schools. We learned that some children a long time ago had to go to schools far away from their families. We thought it wasn't fair that this happened and that we wouldn't want it to happen to us. We have been going out everyday this week, and will continue to do so next week, for our fun run. We are running outside for 15 minutes each day. We are trying to see how many laps around the field we can do and we are building our physical stamina. | |

What a great first week back. We started our week with some silliness and fun celebrating April fools day or as we call it in French April fish day. We made batik fish and we played games and learned some things about fish.
This week we also learned about sorting and about making sorting rules. We practice sorting all sorts of different things and we even sorted play food. We talked a little about sometimes food versus foods that are good for our body and we sorted our food by this rule. We had our jump rope for heart assembly. We will be learning to skip in the next few weeks in preparation for our jump rope for heart skipping day in June. We also spent a little bit of time talking about the differences and similarities between families this week. We made a diagram of our own family and compared it to others. We discovered that families come in different sizes and with different people in it. We also discovered that all of our families care for us and each other and for us. We got to play with the puppets in the classroom for the first time. We use them to create a story. We played with our puppets and figured out that our characters need to do an action to be interesting. We talked about different actions that are characters could be doing. We then wrote and drew a page about our puppet. On Friday we got to see a play in French it was about taking care of the plant. Responsibility for our school ourselves and our planet is our theme for this month at GPE. |
