This week in grade 1 we learned about the sound CH. Unlike our other sounds of the week so far CH acts like a consonant not a vowel. It makes the same sound as SH in English. Read our CH book here: http://midd.me/dPv5 Our words this week were: approche cherche | |
In math we are learning about the equal sign. We discovered that the = sign tells us that the two sides are balanced. They can look different (2 red blocks = 1 green block and 1 yellow block) but they are still balanced or equal. We played a little with scales to help us understand this concept. You can play with a virtual scale here. Just select the bucket scale from the drop down list under manipulatives. We also built sculptures with drift would to help us understand this concept. We learned that every piece of wood has a different balance point and we played with many pieces of wood to find their unique balance points. After created sculptures trying to take advantage of those balance points. In Science we are learning about the signs of fall. Alexis mom brought us some maple leaves in all sorts of fall colours. We examined the leaves and talked about the changes we see in fall. We also learned a poem about fall and tried to colour our own maple leaf remembering that the leaves aren't just one color they have many different shades and colors in them. For Daily 5 we are now able to read books independently for 7 minutes by looking and pictures, looking for words we know and sounding out words. We can work on words by copying words around the room and in books. This week we also started work on writing by beginning to write our own books. We know how to write quite a few sentence stems Voici ...... J'aime...... Je vois ....... Il y a......... Je n'aime pas ........ | Sentence Stems: Voici ...... J'aime...... Je vois ....... Il y a......... Je n'aime pas ... |
