On Monday we heard the Okanagan Syilx story for how names were given. We are enjoying hearing the stories about how everyone got their names. In math we worked on solving a problem involving our name snowman. We figured out how many circles we would need to make our personal name snowman. We needed the number of letters in our names plus one more for the head. We then had to figure out how many sheets of paper we needed to make out snowman - each sheet of paper had 4 circles on it. We did a really good job with this. We are also learning to count by 2's and 5's to 10. We heard a story this week by Eric Carle. It is called Ours Brun. We made a book based on the story. We are working on learning the names of the shapes. Cercle, carre, rectangle, losange, We had our snowman run on Friday. Many of us were feeling a little sick and so we noticed that we were not able to run as many laps as when we are feeling healthy. Also on Friday Mme Hawtree introduced us to her friend M. Coeur. When we met M. Coeur he was a lovely smooth big red heart. We thought we would play with the heart by teasing him, poking at him and grabbing him and calling him names. We laughed a lot when we were doing it. After, we noticed that the heart was all wrinkled and torn. We thought we would try and make him feel better by giving him compliments and saying sorry. We discovered that no matter how hard we tried, we could not make the heart look like it did before we started to play. We talked about the fact that when we hit, push, poke or call each other names or tease each other, we are crinkling each others hearts. We might not be able to see it, but it is really hard to fix, especially if it happens all the time. We decided that we would try and be more careful when we played to be kind and keep our hands to ourselves. This week we have been continuing our alphabet study and we are practicing reading simple syllables and words. Our letters this week were k and r | |
