What did we do this week? Lots! Tuesday was Gingerbread Day. Thanks to everyone who came out to help. We watched the story. We decorated our own Gingerbread men and we wrote a book about how to eat them. Most of us like starting with the head and eating the body last. Some of us started with the arms first. We continued our study of Canada and Canadian symbols. We now know that Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories. We also learned about the RCMP and we Beavers and even had a chance to paint one. We are continuing to learn how to make connections between books and ourselves, the world and other books. We read three different books by David Shannon this week. You can listen to Non David here. They were pretty funny. We found ourselves making connections between each of the books and also with our own lives. We learned a new sound this week. We found out that the letter C likes to be tricky. When it plays with A,O,U it sounds like the letter K. When it plays with i, y and e it sounds like the letter S. You can play a game here to practice. Click only on the soft C sounds (S). http://glup.crdp.ac-versailles.fr/output/index.php?jeu=jeu_514ff0820b062 In PE we are working on improving our balance and moving in all sorts of new ways. We have a special teacher who is coming to help us on Thursdays for the next month. It is a lot of fun but some of the exercises are a little tricky. | We are still having a lot of fun writing Qui suis-je stories. We also loved trying to figure out these Qui suis-je. |

In reading we have been talking about how to pre-read a book. Pre-reading gets our brain thinking about what we might expect to read in the story. When we pre-read we look at the pictures and title to try and guess what the story might be about. After we read the story we check to see what we got right and what was unexpected. We are also learning how to listen to a story. We have been watching and listening to stories on Tumblebooks. You can access tumblebooks at home by visiting http://www.orl.bc.ca/ and then clicking on the tumblebooks icon on the right side of the page. When we listen to a book we are practicing doing three things... listening to the words, looking at the words and pictures (and trying to read along) and thinking about the story. It is lots of things to do at the same time and takes practice. We need to read and re-read the same story many times before we get good at it.
We are also learning about nutrition this week. We talked about healthy snacks. We made a book of good snack choices and watched some videos of creative snack ideas during our snack time. You can see more of them here.
