We had a lot of fun this week. We made pigs (cochon) and read stories. We learned about our senses and did a variety of experiments to test them out. We practiced some new letters (p,n) and we said goodbye to Mme Lord. We ate pancakes and painted too. We are starting to realize that we have the skills to read words and some of us are learning compound sounds. We can read in and on.

This week, we focused on kindness and bravery. We are learning that learning can be uncomfortable but when we persevere and keep trying anyway we are being brave. We are working on practicing kindness with our friends as much as possible, so we did some fun activities that were about kindness.
Last week after Mrs Holloway’s class made us cookies we decided that we would like to do the same thing for Mme Risso’s class. On Wednesday we got the opportunity to do it and giving made us all feel really good. On Thursday we made kindness rocks and cards for one another, it made us feel happy to make something for our friends. We also focused on families and what they look like. We made charts about what each of our families look like. Some look similar and some look different but they are all families no matter how big or small. We are continuing to practice writing our numbers and find different ways of seeing the numbers 1-10, like with words or objects. We are also still working with our letters, this week we practiced writing and drawing pictures for the letters j and y. On Friday we got to see a play about William Shakespeare and we learned about one of his most famous pieces: Midsummer Night’s Dream. We very much enjoyed this play, the actors were very funny. This week, we learned an important rule. It is called the Golden rule. Treat other people the way you would want to be treated. We talked about how we wanted to be treated in our class. We decided that the Golden Rule in our class looked like this: - Be Kind -Take Turns - Be Respectful -Be a Bucket Filler - Use Kind Words - Be Helpful - Have Fun Together We also learned that there is something called the broken rule. This is treating others the way they treat us. We decided that probably wasn't a very good rule to follow. These lessons are part of a program called Play is the Way that Mme Hawtree will be using with us. Next week we will learn how being brave can help us be better learners. We have been learning that we need food for energy and to grow. We learned that some food give us good energy and some food gives us quick energy that isn't as good for us. We sorted foods into foods we can eat all the time and foods that we should only eat sometimes. In our journals this week we wrote about a fruit we like to eat. We played restaurant and decided we would try and make our own healthy restaurant that only made all the time foods. We created our own menus and had a lot of fun pretending to be dishwashers, cooks, servers, and customers. We are continuing our work with letters. We practiced writing the letters i, e and l this week. We also drew things that started with each letter. We are continuing to work with numbers to 10. We are practicing counting on (starting to count from numbers other than 1). We are working on printing our numbers and recognizing groups of objects as a number. On Friday, Mrs Holloway's class had a very special treat for us. As part of our Month of Love, the kindergarten classes have been trying to come up with ways to spread kindness in our school. Mrs Holloway's students decided to bake us some cookies and brought them to us on Friday. Our class thought this was a fantastic way of showing kindness and we decided we would like to do the same thing for Mme Godon's class next week! |
