It was silly and funny. We are continuing to practice our reading skills. We are working on following the text we are reading with our figures. Looking at the pictures to help us figure out what is going on in the story. Looking for words that we already know and trying to sound out words that we don't. We know that learning to read takes mental strength, practice and stamina and that it isn't easy. We are trying to build our stamina by rereading familiar books to ourselves for a few minutes everyday. Some of the words we learned to read: Je vois (I see), C'est (it is), Voici (Here is) In writing we learned what a character was and we designed a character for a story we wanted to write. At this stage we are playing with story telling and using images and text to tell a story. Our goal is to put something down on paper that we can share with others. For some of us that means a drawing and a few letters, for others we are starting to sound out words, and use words around the room to write. We reviewed our feeling vocabulary this week. We also started to talk about empathy. We are learning that how I am feeling is not always how others around me are feeling. We made a heart to represent how we were feeling at that moment. We also practiced trying to guess how our friends were feeling based on their facial expressions and body language. In our talking circles this week we have been focusing on being good whole body listeners and showing our friends that we care about what they are saying by giving them our full attention. We have also been playing lots of games to encourage us to use the French we know to communicate with each other. Our virtual field trip to see a Guatemalan Volcano was a lot of fun. We learned how volcanoes are formed, how they erupt and how different kinds are rocks are formed by volcanoes. We saw the side of a volcano too. |
