This week we continued with our story workshop. We have been working on adding an action to our story. We also learned a little bit about Earth Day, recycling and ways to help the environment. We read Todd Parr's Earth book and the Lorax. We are really enjoying seeing all the creative things our friends are making out of recycling. We are continuing to add to our little book collection and this week we got to add some of the words to the book we were reading. We also made a Daisy out of paper strips. We are learning to write and read new words. We practiced writing and reading tu and toi this week. We have noticed that a lot of French words have 2 letters that work together to make a new sound. We learned the sounds that ON and OI (wa) make. In math we are working on creating and recognizing numbers in a 10 frame. We are also doing some simple addition by counting groups and we continue to work on counting on. We have began reading a book this week about the Syilx (Okanagan) people and the seasons. We have been learning about different activities that happened at each season and a little about the 4 food chiefs Skimxist (Bear), Ntytikxw (Salmon), Speetlum (Bitterroot) and Seeya (Saskatoon). We also began our animal inquiry this week. We learned about Hippos, elephants and bears. We wondered about animal teeth, animal babies, and animal habitat. We are collecting information so we can compare the animals we learned about and decide which animal is the most interesting. | |

This week we started our week by learning outside. We made some observations about the signs of spring. We did some writing about spring time too. We even did some reading outside.
We had a chance to go into Mme Godon’s class and we made butterflies that were inspired by aboriginal butterfly art We learned the Syilk. (Okanagan) word for butterfly too. We also learned a little about Fancy Shawl dancing. In some dances the dancers represent butterflies that have newly left their cocoon. We tried to see if we could dance like the Fancy Shawl dancers too. It was fun. In math we are working on writing the numbers before and after a number. We are practicing counting on from numbers other then 1. Our letters this week were h,b and q.
