We learned that we have started a new season. It is l'automne. We made a torn art representation of fall trees and read a book about fall too. We had a visit from the fire safety house. We learned how to get out of our house safely. We also learned what we would do at school to get our of our classroom safely. We practiced leaving the school safely. We had a lot of fun in Gym. Mr. Borsema had enough wheel chairs in the gym for all of us to try one. We got to learn how to use them and to push ourselves around the gym. It was a lot of work. In preparation for our field trip to the salmon run we read a First Nations story about salmon. We also talked about what each of us knew already about salmon. We then tried to think of some things we were wondering about salmon (Les Saumons). Some of our questions: Do salmon fight over eggs? Do salmon moms take care of their babies? How big are salmon? How many eggs do they lay? How far can they swim? How fast can they swim? Do salmon have batteries? When we got back from our trip we discovered that we now had some of the answers to our questions but not all of them. We decided to try reading a few books and watching a few videos. We learned that salmon have lots of different names as they grow. We also learned that the Salmons life is kind of like a circle that keeps repeating. One of our friends taught us that this was called a life cycle (cycle de vie). We decided it might be fun to make a book about the life cycle of salmon or maybe make a model or do a play about salmon. We decided to think about it this weekend and decide how we wanted to proceed next week. We started learning about patterns this week (les patrons, les suites) we went looking for patterns around our classroom and we tried to make patterns with different materials. | |
