| Our visit to Paynter's market on Monday it was fun. We enjoyed getting to see the orchards and the gardens and we got to pick a fresh apples from the tree. We learned a little bit of vocabulary in French for fruits and vegetables when we return to school. Thank you so much to the parents that helped out. We are continuing our introduction to the letters this week we learned the letters P, B and R. we are practicing writing the letters in capitals and we are also learning the sound and name the letter. We are continuing to practice writing our names the Kindergarten way (Capital letter at the front, lower case letters after). We are also working on learning the letters in our names in French. This week was the Terry Fox run. We learned that Terry Fox worked hard and persevered to meet his goals. We thought about what we would like to do that was hard and how we might proceed to make that happen. We also had a lot of fun running in the gym and pretending we were Terry Fox finishing the run across Canada. We graphed the number of laps each of us did. We will have many runs this year and we will try and do better and better every time. We started our afternoon work centers this week. These are centers that we can play that help us practice the things we’ve been learning about. Centers this week had letters, our names and fine motor skill activities. On Friday it was orange shirt day our school was covered with sticky notes with wonderful messages for all of us. We talked about the fact that we are all important. We decided that no one was more important than anyone else and that we needed to treat each other well and with respect. Some things we are working on: I can ask to use the washroom, to eat and to drink in French. I can introduce myself in French, and ask how someone is doing. I can sing French songs and participate in oral games and activities. I can count to 5. I can say the names and sounds of the letters F,E,B,D,P. I can write my name using upper case and lower case letters. I can use my whole body to listen. I am kind to my friends. I can wait my turn. I can share about things I like. I can move safely in space. |

Welcome to Kindergarten! What a fun and busy first few days. On Monday we read the story of the Gingerbread man(bonhomme de pain d'épice) and went on a hunt around the school to try and find the Gingerbread man. We didn't find him but he did leave us a nice note and some cookies too! We went to the gym and the library and we met Mrs Dehoog who will teach us coding too. We have all been getting to know each other. We are starting to learn new French words. We learned a good morning song that you can listen to below. We can say bonjour (hello) and aurevoir (goodbye). We are starting to learn parts of our body and we are learning many new songs in French too. We've played a lot. We read lots of stories. Mme is reading us stories about Paul and Suzanne. They are in French but we are using the pictures and Mme's actions to try and figure out what the story is all about. We did lots of different crafts this week to learn how to use school materials and to have some fun. We drew self portraits, made abstract art from paper pieces and painted a gingerbread man. Here are some of the things we are working on learning now. I can try new things. I can share my ideas. I can play with my friends. I can read my name. I can write my first name. I can say the letters in my name in French. I can greet someone in French and reply to a greeting in French. I know my colors in French. I can be a good listener.
