Our sounds this week: AU and EAU both these letter combinations make the same sound as O. chapeau l'eau beau chaud aussi auto In math this week our focus has been on patterning. We learned that patterns can be long or short. We made patterns with music, with dance and with objects. On Thursday Paula Scott came and we made art projects using patterning. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who came to help! This week we have also been talking about bears. On Friday we had our teddy bear picnic and ate all sorts of things that real bears might eat. We had salmon and trout, berries, seeds and nuts and of course honey! | |

In math this week we are learning about subtraction. We learned that subtraction is taking away or stealing from a group. Our new group will have less things in it. You can play a game here to practice. We have been talking about different things we can do to help us read new books this week. We talked about looking at the pictures in a book to tell us what it is about. We also learned that we can cut up words into pieces to help us sound them out. We learned that some words have little words hiding inside the big word and this can make it easier for us to read them. Finally we learned that when we are reading we should scan and look for words we already know (sight words) to make it easier for us to read. We had fun using the puppets we made last week to retell the story of Boucle d'or. We also got new teams and moved desks. Each team had to agreed on a team name and create a poster for their team. Our new teams are les dinosaurs, les chat ninja, les souris, les chiens, les lions.
This week we had lots of fun and learned a lot too. Monday was PJ day and Drop Everything and Read Day. We all went to the gym with the whole gym and read our books for 20 minutes! We also had a bus safety presentation. We had a chance to practice getting on and off the bus safely. In science we talked about the signs of fall, pumpkins and spiders. We learned about spiders and spider webs. You can learn how spiders make their webs here. We visited the pumpkin farm and we carved pumpkins. We had a fun halloween party too. Our sound this week was OI oi it makes the sound (wa). You can find the sound in words like toile, trois, moi, oiseau. Here are some games you can play with the oi sound. In math we played some more with the = sign and we also learned about the + sign. We know that when we see the + sign we need to put the two groups together. Here is a math game using tokens. Here is a simple math game to practice using manipulatives to show our math thinking when we add. We learned three new songs this week.
