Important Dates in September:
September 11—First full day of Kindergarten
September 17—PAC meeting
September 23—Picture Day
September 26—Early dismissal day 12:30
September 27—Early dismissal day 12:30
Welcome! My name is Geneviève Hawtree and I am so happy to have the opportunity to teach your child this year. I look forward to getting to know you and your child. We will have a fun, exciting and busy year ahead.
Parent/Teacher Communication
Your child will bring home a home school communication bag when needed. It will contain field trip forms, notes or student work. Please ensure that you return the bag the following morning. If you have any concerns or need to communicate with me about anything you can do so by e-mailing me at [email protected] or by visiting or calling the school between 2:45 - 3:30.
Parent Participation
I welcome parent involvement and look forward to working with you. You will need to fill out a criminal record check before you can volunteer. Forms were included in your welcome package or you can ask for a form at the office. There are many ways you can help at the school and at home. I am looking for parents who are willing to read to students, volunteers to help prepare and create classroom materials, people to help us on special days and field trips, and a room parent to help me co-ordinate with other parents. I will be sending out a sign-up sheet in the next week. If you are able to help in anyway it would be appreciated. Additionally our school community is always looking for volunteers and I encourage you to attend a PAC meeting to connect with other parents and see how you can help. The first PAC meeting will be held on September 17th.
Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. If your child wishes, he/she may bring a healthy treat for the class. Please send a note a day or two in advance, so I can set aside some class time for the party. Please do not send birthday party invitations to school unless the entire class has been invited. Although it may seem convenient to distribute invitations this way, it can result in hurt feelings for those not invited.
Supplies:
Please refer to the school newsletter for the cost of supplies this year. Payments can be made online. Other important items worth noting are:
· A backpack to carry snacks, lunch and library books, etc.
· A water bottle (please label the bottle and encourage your child not to share it!)
· A complete change of clothing in a labeled bag. (in case of accidents, falls or messes)
· Indoor running shoes which can be left at school on a continuing basis.
· A personal set of headphones in a labeled bag.
Book Orders
Your child will be bringing home a form to order books about once a month. If you wish to order, submit your order to me and pay by credit card or PayPal online at www.scholastic.ca/canadaclubs Your online order will be sent to me automatically. These orders are provided as a convenient way for parents to buy quality books for their child at a low price. As an added bonus, for every dollar that is spent on books, I earn bonus points which are used to purchase books and materials for classroom use.
Money
On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always send money in a sealed envelope or plastic bag with the following information written on it:
1 Your child’s first and last name.
2 The amount of money.
3 The purpose for the money (book money, party money, etc).
4 My name.
With 20 students to keep track of and several reasons to collect money, this helps me out tremendously and reduces the likelihood of errors. Also, if the envelope is left on the bus or dropped in the hallway, this information will help the money to be returned to my classroom.
Snack and lunches:
Please have your child bring a healthy snack to school each day, as students will have a mid-morning nutrition break. Small apples, bananas, carrots, celery and dried fruit are some examples of healthy snacks that we recommend. Due to the fact that many children have allergies sharing food will not be allowed. Additionally we have a nut allergy in our room. Please do not pack nuts for snacks or lunch!
