Parent Day
In an attempt to honor all of our diverse families we will be celebrating Parents day instead of Mothers day and Fathers Day. We will be having a very special Parent Day event at school in the evening on May 31. A personal invitation with details of this event will be sent home shortly. We hope that you will all be able to join us.
Volunteers Needed:
May 28 (All day)
We will be going to the Art Gallery and the Rotary center for the Arts on May 28th. I need 4 parents to join us in order for us to attend this field trip.
School Garden Volunteers
A note went home this week to ask families to adopt the garden for 1 week in June, July or August. We are looking for families to weed and water the garden for a week during this time. If you can help us, please send the paper back before May 15th.
Community Helpers
As we are starting to explore the idea of community and its helpers, I would like to invite parents to the class to come and talk about their role in the community (your job). You would come and speak for a few minutes about your work and answer a few questions from students.
The dates will be from May 27th until May 31st. We would need you to come from 1:30 -1:45 If you are interested, please send me a note indicating your profession, preferred date and time. To assist with scheduling please indicate your 1st and 2nd preferred date/time. Thank you for helping to make this unit relevant to my students.
Drop N'Tile Event
The ReconciliACTION team will be leading our school using story, resources, and a cultural exhibit to raise the understanding of the importance of family and connection to land and culture in the growth of a child. We want to acknowledge a time in Canada’s history in which many young Aboriginal children went away to live at the school, separated from their families because of government policies written to force Aboriginal people to give up their culture. Students will design and decorate a tile as a response to their learning on May 9th at 1:45 pm. There will be an introductory assembly at 9:00 am. Families are welcome to join us in the gym.
Large Trays Veggie Trays
Next time you buy a large veggie tray for Costco or Superstore, think of us I am on the hunt for some of these empty containers (with the lids please) . If you have any you would like to get rid of we would love to take them of your hands. We will be using them to store loose parts.
