Glen Canyon Walk – Our class will go for a walk in the Glen Canyon Regional Park on Wednesday, October 17th to explore signs of autumn that are evident in nature. We will leave the school at 12:45 and return at 1:45. I will need 3 parent volunteers for this event. Please email or sign up outside on the classroom bulletin board if you would like to join us.
D.E.A.R. Day – DEAR is an acronym for Drop Everything And Read. We will be heading to the gym at 10:30 on Monday, October 22th to read with our big buddies for 30 minutes.
Great Pumpkin Run – on Wednesday, October 24th, all Kindergarten students will participate in their second “themed run”. We will run around the gym collecting stickers indicating how many laps we have run. Students are encouraged to wear ORANGE today to look like a pumpkin.
Friday, October 26th is PHOTO RETAKES where student’s individual photos will be taken. Students are encouraged to wear bright colours. Picture package options will be sent home with their proofs a few weeks after their picture is taken.
Westwood Retirement Home – on Wednesday, October 31 our class will take a short walk across Ingram Road to visit our senior friends at the Westwood Retirement Home. While we are there, we will perform our autumn/Halloween poems and songs and do our costume parade. The students will also receive their first “treat” for their Halloween goodies during our visit.
Halloween Fun - on Wednesday, October 31st, we will be having a Halloween Theme Day with the other Kindergarten classes. Your child is welcome to wear their costume to school for the day. Make sure your child is comfortable and can move and see clearly while wearing their costume. Also, costumes that are gory and graphic can be scary for young children. Please be sensitive to others at this age when helping them select an appropriate costume for school. Swords and guns are not allowed in the school. It is often awkward and disappointing for a child to be at school without a costume while others are dressed up. If your child is not dressing up for our Halloween fun activities, please let me know so I may plan accordingly. We will be having a special fun Halloween snack. Please let me know if you would like to bring something to share. I would love to have extra parent volunteers on this day, so feel free to sign up here: https://goo.gl/forms/nvALG1rJGTzleYmr2.
Sharing - Family photo and Rhyming Bags
Our first Sharing is starting next week. I will be asking each student to bring 2 things. A family photo or drawing of their families so that students can share about their families and a Rhyming bag. Please assist your child in finding two or three items that rhyme ie. Tree, key, B or car, bar, star or doll, ball, or rock, lock, clock etc. Be creative and have fun finding rhyming items at home. Place these items in a bag. Please see Sharing letter for your child's day.
