Welcome back everyone! Thank you so much for all the wonderful cards, gifts and sentiments. I really appreciate them and was touched by your kindness. Happy New Year everyone.
Important Dates:
January 9 - Skating
January 16- Skating
January 18- Snowman Run
January 23- Skating
January 25- Mixed Media Me
Skating Field trips:
We will be going skating this Wednesday, January 9, Wednesday, January 16 and Wednesday, January 23rd from 10:15 – 11:15 am. Students will need skates, helmets and appropriate dress (snow pants, warm jacket, mitts). If your child has elbow and knee-pads, they would be very beneficial as well. If you indicated your child needs skates, we will do our best to provide your child with skates in their size. We would like as many parents as possible to join us, to assist in lacing up the skates and helping the students on/off the ice. Please sign up on the calendar outside the class or contact me to let me know if you will be able to join us.
Volunteers Needed:
Along with volunteers for the skating trips this month, I am looking for some parents to help with laminating and cutting materials for centers. I am also looking for people to come in first thing in the morning to play games with students. I will also need volunteers on January 25th at 9:00 for our mixed media me project.
Art Project:
Please send a box of white sugar cubes (500 gram box) with your child at your earliest convenience (before January 22). The children will be making a replica of “an ice castle”.
Winter Wear:
Please make sure your child is well dressed for the winter weather. We will be going outside everyday. Label all clothes with their name. Please send INSIDE SHOES as boots are messy and needed to be removed after playing outside. An additional change of clothes is also appreciated so students have something to change into if they get wet.
Things to do at home:
-Help your child to print his / her first name and last name using an initial capital letter, followed by lower case letters. E.g. James Smith.
-Read stories, discuss stories, make up new endings, and predict what is going to happen,
-Look for familiar words or letters in everyday environments (cereal boxes, shopping lists, street names,)
-Practice singing the alphabet,
-Use flash cards, repeat letter names and sounds
-Look through the library books your child chooses from school. Have him/ her tell you about the colours and numbers of objects, or tell a story using the pictures as clues.
- Practice tying shoe laces and getting their coats on and zipped up on their own
- Continue to read daily with and to your child and practice math skills such as counting.
This should not be considered as home work. It is important to keep this practice short and pleasurable where you and your child can explore, discover and play together.
