We drew a maple leaf and a cartoon beaver too.
In math we are continuing to practice our addition and subtraction skills. We are also practicing counting by 5's and 10's. We used nickels to practice counting by 5's. We also played a soccer math game and it was fun.
Our new sound this week was ER. We find ER most often at the end of verbs. It makes the sound "eh" Some words with ER to practice.

1) When I read I look at the pictures for clues.
2) When I read a cut up words to make them easier to sound out.
3) When I read a look for little words (or sounds) inside bigger words to make them easier to figure out.
In Daily 5 we have started something new. Each student has been given as specific word list to work on during our "Working with Words" time. Students will practice these words until they know them by heart. Each week they will be given a quiz on the words by their big buddies. If they do well they will move on to the next list. If they still need practice their big buddies will practice they list with them and they will continue to practice those words for the week.
In writing we are practicing expanding our ideas. If we write... I see a dog. We ask, what kind of dog? What color is the dog? Where is the dog? What is the dog doing? We can then add more details to our stories to make them more interesting.
On Thursday we also had a morning to recommit ourselves to making GPE the best school ever. We learned ways we can respect ourselves, each other and the community to help it be a wonderful place to play, learn and grown.
