This week we learned to write the letters O, Q and S We know a lot of our letters now - only T to go. We are working on remembering their names, their sound and some words to each letter. We are working on learning all the letters in alphabetic order too. We made a few class books this week. One book was a list of our favorite colors. Our second book was an alphabet book. Each child made an animal collage for 1 letter of the alphabet. We are learning lots of animal names. We also read a story about 3 little mice who learned about mixing colors this week. We made an art project based on the story. It was fun to mix paints. In math we are working on subitizing and also on associating numbers with groups of things. We are also continuing to practice printing our numbers correctly. We learned a new game this week. We discovered that if we take a letter we know and swap it out for the first letter in an object around us we can get some pretty funny rhymes. For example with an L I can change chair to lair, board to loard, Madame to Ladame. It's a fun way to reenforce rhyming and practice our letter sounds too! Here are some English games you can use to practice Rhyming at home too: http://pbskids.org/games/rhyming/ We talked a little about the difference between tattling and reporting this week. We talked about how it was sometimes really important to get an adults help to solve a problem but that other times we were able to help ourselves. We thought we should ask ourselves some questions to help figure out if we should try and solve the problem or we should tell an adult. 1) Is someone going to get hurt or is someone damaging an other persons property (Tell an adult) 2) Is this about me or am I trying to be the boss of someone else? (John is using a red crayon instead of blue one!) 3) Am I trying to help myself or someone or am I trying to get someone into trouble? 4) Have I tried to solve the problem myself but with no success? | |
