This week our letters where N and M. We had 2 fire drills. The fire drill bell is very loud. We started show and tell. It is very interesting to hear about other people's families. We are learning that not all families are the same. We started our pumpkin exploration this week too. We started by looking at a pumpkin like an artist. An artist uses their eyes, their imagination and their hearts to see and draw something. We drew pumpkins at our tables using pastels on black paper. We tried to notice the colors, lines and shapes in our pumpkins. We discovered that different sides of the pumpkins looked different so all our pumpkin drawings looked different too. We learned asked ourselves what we already know about pumpkins and what we wanted to learn about pumpkins. We are wondering how pumpkins (les citrouilles) grow, how big they can become, what colors they can be and why they have goop and seeds inside. We tried to see if we could answer any of our questions by observing pumpkins, looking a pumpkin books and creating an experiment. We put dirt and water inside an open pumpkin and we made predictions about what we thought might happen. We will observe out pumpkin over time. We also talked about what a scientist is (and we learned that we are all scientists). We learned that scientists ask questions (wonder about things), make guesses, create experiments to check their guess. Measure things, group things and record things by drawing and writing. We also learned that scientists use all their senses to help them make observations about the world. We are getting much better at following directions in French. We are also learning to talk about things we like in French too. We can say J'aime and Je n'aime pas (I like, I don't like). We are working on counting in French too. | We introduced a new play center this week - the creation station. Students can draw plans and then try and create an idea in their heads. We watched the magnificent thing to help get us ready. It reminded us that we learn from our mistakes and that the creating process takes time and persistence. |
