| We were so busy this week but boy did we have a lot of fun. Tuesday we learned some more Olympic vocabulary and we made an Olympic builtin board. We also had a mini-Olympics outside. Our events were luge (on the slide), hockey and patinage artistique (figure skating) we had a lot of fun cheering each other on. Wednesday was Valentine's day. We had fun giving out valentines, participating in valentine's centers. Thank you to all who helped out. We also did a paper heart experiment. We insulted a paper heart and every time we did Mme Hawtree crumpled it a little bit. At the end our heart looked sad. We decided to try and give it compliments instead. Every time we gave it a compliment Mme would smooth out the heart. We discovered that although the heart looked better after our compliments it was not fixed. We decided that unkind words hurt people and are hard to undo. We thought that maybe we should try harder to be kind. Thursday morning we asked the question - If you won an Olympic metal, what would it be for. Some kids thought they might win for sports like hockey, luge or figure skating. Others thought they might win for working hard, being kind, doing their best or being loving. We decided to make ourselves a medal. We also read a story about two friends that were very different. We decided that being different didn't mean we couldn't be friends. Friday we celebrated Lunar New Year. We learned a little bit about how some families celebrate Lunar New Year. We tried a rice cookie and we made paper lanterns. We also tried our hand at writing in Chinese characters. |
