This week we had a visit from a Kelowna Rocket named Cole. He read us a book about Dinosaur Hockey and talked about some connections he made with the text. We are learning all about making connections when we read. We found out that stories make us think of things. Sometimes they make us think of things in our lives, other times they make us think about other books we read and sometimes they make us think about things in the world. In writing we are learning about using interesting words to paint a picture in the readers mind and help them see what we are seeing. We are practicing using adjectives in our writing and we just starting writing Qui suis-je riddles to see how good we are at using our words to help people guess what we are talking about. We learned that we live in our homes, in West Kelowna, in British Columbia, in Canada on the planet earth. We also learned that Canada is our country and that as a country we have symbols that are important to us. We learned about two symbols this week - the maple leaf and the Canadian flag. We learned how to draw a maple leaf in two ways and then painted one. You can learn how to draw a maple leaf here: http://www.wikihow.com/Draw-a-Maple-Leaf | This week in math we are learning about measurement. We had fun learning how to use nonstandard objects (not rulers) to measure things. We even tried to measure the classroom with our bodies. We got the idea from Sid: |
