Thursday was Groundhog day. We learned a little about groundhogs (les marmottes) and then we made a groundhog puppet. We went outside to see if our puppet would see its shadow (ombre). We discovered that if we stood in the shade it didn't see its shadow but when we went out into the sun it did. We then played with shadows against the school wall and traced them. we watched a video of people making incredible shadows with their bodies and then at play centers we got to try it on the smartboard and with Mme's special light projector.
Our letters this week were
h - H is a funny letter. In French it usually doesn't really say anything unless it is paired with its friends s and c. Words for H include hibou(owl), herisson(porcupine), hockey
i - says e in French. Words include igloo, iguane (iguana), ile (island)
j - words include jupe(skirt), jus (pronounced like jus but don't say the s sound), je (I)

In math we are continuing to build numbers to 10. We worked on letters 6 and 7. Some of us are starting to recognize the letters in their word form. un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept.
We are continuing to learn about communicating. This week we learned that the tone and volume we use can change the meaning of our words. For example if I say "I can do that!" in a loud confident voice it has a different meaning than if I say it in a quiet shy whisper voice.
