What a great first week of school! We had a lot of fun this week and learned lots too. We are learning classroom routines and rules. We are starting to learn to respond to French instructions. We learned how to say good morning and goodbye and we are learning our body parts and our color words.
We also learned a good morning song and a goodbye song. You can listen to the good morning song below ( we sing the part up to about minute 1.27 on the video below.
We read lots of books this week but one of our favorites was Pete the Cat: Rocking my School Shoes.(In french his name is Pat le chat) We really had fun visiting all the different parts of the school and trying to find Pete.
We are also practicing our cutting skills and we are learning to write our names the kindergarten way (capital letter followed by small letters)
We drew a self portrait and made two other pieces of art too. One was a paper ripping activity with our names. The second was a paper cutting activity.
We talked a little about the things everyone would like to learn about this year. Nature and trees came up quite a few times. We also wanted to learn french, learn to share, learn about animals and learn about shinies(?) and race cars.
Everyday we start with morning centers. Our centers right now are designed to build fine motor skills and strengthen our hands in preparation for writing. We are building things, coloring, cutting straws and using punches.
