This week we started Hip Hop in the gym. Mrs Jen is a fantastic teacher and we are having a lot of fun.
Ms Alexis came to class and taught us about how the Okanagan people used plants from our area. She brought all sorts of plants to show us. We learned that Okanagan flowers were used for so many different things, including teaching kids to walk with quiet feet. We learned that there are lots of different plants that can be used for food, but that we shouldn't try and find any to try unless our moms or dads tell us it is okay. We also found out that cat-tail was used for diaper liners. We some some beautifully made baskets too. It was very interesting.
We are having lots of fun weighing and testing our sink or float show and tell objects. At first we thought things that were bigger would sink and things that were smaller would sink. Then we thought that things that were heavier would sink and things that were lighter would float. We have figured out that this isn't the case. Our working theory is that it has things with air in them will float and things that don't have air in them sink. We feel we need to do more testing to be sure we are right about this.
We had so much fun painting last week that we decided to do 4 paintings this week. We did a painting of 4 trees at each season. We thought about what colors would best represent the seasons. We talked about how trees change in each season, what was the same, what was different? We then did watercolor paintings to represent the 4 seasons.
Mme finally brought all the materials we need to make our ant house on Friday. We talked about what ants would need to live. We thought they would need some of the same things we need, food, water, a house. It was fun to build the house. Now we are trying to figure out how to get the ants that are in our classroom into the jar and we are wondering how we can get a queen ant too.
The storm on Thursday and Friday made us curious about thunder and lightning so we tried to learn a little about that on Friday too.
It was a full, fun week of learning.
