This week in Kindergarten we had lots of fun. We finished up our plant unit by making comparisons between apples and pumpkins. We noticed that apples and pumpkins both have flowers that turn into fruit. We also noticed that apples grow on trees and pumpkins grow on vines. We make a venn diagram on the smartboard to sort our ideas. We started new morning center bins this week. We are practicing items to 6 and writing our numbers to 6. We also learned that there are lots of different ways to represent a number. We looked at different ways to represent the numbers 1,2 and 3. We got to use the ipads for the first time this week. We talked about proper behaviour with the ipads. We also got a chance to take pictures of patterns around the classroom. We learned that the world around us is FULL of patterns. We are almost done our letters in our names activity. This week we learned about I E D M K. I and E are tricky in french because the letter I is called the same thing as the letter E in English. Here is a video for you parents with vowel pronounciation - https://youtu.be/FgTqqLTJvnc | This week we also started noticing spiders around the school and discovered we had a lot of questions about them. We decided to start a wonder unit about spiders. We all brainstormed questions we had about spiders. We thought about some ways we could answer those questions. We discovered that some of us already knew a lot about spiders. We also went for a walk a learned a little bit about them by watching them outside. We found lots of spider webs. We asked Mr Obst to find us some books about spiders too. We worked on answering our questions about spider webs this week. We found out how spiders make their webs. We watched this video to learn about how webs are made http://www.espace-sciences.org/explorer/animations-en-ligne/comment-l-araignee-construit-elle-sa-toile We found out where the silk comes from and we also discovered that spider webs can be different colors. We learned a little about the golden orb spider who spins golden webs. We also wondered if spiders could jump and so we found a video of a jumping spider online. |
| In PE were are starting to learn ball skills. We are working on rolling and catching skills. During quiet time students can lie down if they want to or they can do our Cosmic Kids Yoga activity. Students listen to a story and stretch their bodies at the same time. Finally for our social lesson this week we read "Have you Filled A Bucket Today." We learned that being kind makes other people happy and makes us happy too. When we are kind we fill other peoples buckets (and our bucket too!) When we are unkind we become bucket dippers, stealing people's happiness and making ourselves feel worse too. We are all working on being bucket fillers and we are trying to avoid being bucket dippers. |
