This week we have been continuing our color exploration. We sat down and thought about some things that we already know or think we know about colors. We also came up with some questions we had about colors. Some things we think we know: - We know the color words rouge (red), orange (orange), bleu (blue), jaune (yellow), vert (green), purple (violet), rose (pink) - Paints, playdough, felts, crayons all have colors. - Water can make a rainbow. - Flowers can be all sorts of colors. - You can't make red, yellow or blue. Some of our questions: - What happens when you mix different colors or playdough?(we tried this with blue and yellow and we made green!) - Would you still be able to see a rainbow in a sprinkler on a cloudy day? - Is it true that you can't make red, yellow or blue? - How do you make all the colors? - What could we paint with colors? In math we are learning about shapes. We are trying to remember the names of 6 shapes. Cercle (circle), oval (oval), rectangle (rectangle), carre (square), diamond (losange) and triangle. We found out that we were having some trouble telling the difference between squares and rectangles. We wondered why these shapes had different names when they looked so much alike. We decided to try and figure it out. Some people thought rectangles were bigger than squares but then we discovered some squares that were bigger than rectangles. Some people thought a square might be a rectangle cut in half but when we tried it we found that not all rectangles cut in half made squares. After trying all sorts of things we finally noticed that rectangles seemed to be made up of 2 shorter lines and 2 longer lines. We also noticed that if you turned a square it looked like a diamond but that this wasn't true with rectangles. We read the story of Ours Brun this week too. We learned the name of some animals and we made a puppet to help us retell the story. Our letters this week are U, V and W. We are starting to try to learn at least one word that starts with each letter of the alphabet. We are learning a few songs to help us do that. |
Some I can statements we are working on now: I can name my colors in French. I can name my shapes in French. I can write my numbers to 5. I can count to 10 in French. I can take turns. I can share with my friends. I can say the first sound in a word. I can hear rhymes. I can make rhymes. I am willing to take risks and try speaking in French. I can ask questions. I can share my ideas. |
