Thursday was red day. We spent some time trying to notice the color red around us. We tried writing the word red too (rouge). We graphed how many people wore the color red too. Our next color day is Monday and it is Orange day!
We are starting to notice features of books when we read stories. We know that our books have authors (un auteur) and illustrators (un illustrateur). We noticed that stories have letters, words and sentences. We learned that a period tells us it's the end of a sentence. It is a good place to stop, take a breath and think about what we just read.
We spent sometime talking about feelings this week and the zones of regulation. You may hear child say that they are in the blue zone (tired, bored, sad), green zone (happy, ready to learn, calm), yellow zone (getting frustrated, a little excited, upset) or red zone (angry, over excited). We are learning that all of us can find ourselves in any of these zones during the day and that this is okay. We are learning to use a variety of strategies to help us move from the red, yellow and blue zones back to the green zone so that we are ready to learn at school.
Some strategies that we are working on together are exercise, and visualizing happy things to help us get out of the blue zone and deep slow breaths to help us get out of the yellow zone or red zone. We will be learning a range of different strategies for dealing with our emotions over the year.
Our letter this week was L. We also practiced writing the number 4.
