This week we have had fun continuing to prepare for our Symphony field trip. We listened to and watched Peter and The wolf. We have been working hard on trying to imagine stories in our head without seeing any pictures first. We are also continuing to work on learning french words for each letter of the alphabet. When we get good at this we will be able to think of the sound of the letter and many words that start with that letter. We practiced writing the letters Q and O this week. Someone noticed that the letter Q in lower cased form went below the line instead of between the lines like other letters. We reviewed the idea that letters go on different places on the line depending on their type. For example tall letters go to the top of the line. Mme calls those giraffe letters. Letters that are small fit between the dotted line and the bottom line. Those are called coccinelle letters (ladybug) and the letters that go under the bottom line are called singe (monkey) letters because their tail goes under the line. Giraffe letters: l,t,b,d,t,f,h.k. Ladybug letters: w.e.u.i.o,a,z,x,c,v,n,m Monkey letters: q,y,p,j,y We have also been exploring our 5 senses. J'entend- I hear Je vois - I see Je sens - I smell Je goute - I taste Je touche- I touch We went for a walk with our big buddies this week to see what we could hear, smell, touch and see outside. We were reminded during our Science World presentation that scientists use their senses to discover new things, make guesses and test out their guess. We also learned a little about spiders this week because we had a spider friend in our class. We discovered that spiders come in all sorts of colors and not all spiders are scary or dangerous. In math, we came up with a real life question we were curious about - how many teeth do children have in their mouths. We found out that children normally have 20 teeth but lots of us have lost teeth so we tried to find out how many teeth we had in our mouth now. We also learned that Mme Hawtree has 12 teeth more then children usually have in their mouths. | |
